May 27, 2005

27. Mai 2005 -- Freitag

LDAP: convince myself that the uvmTemporaryObject problem we say using GQ yesterday is in fact a GQ buglet and not a problem with the objectClass definition nor the ldap server.

Calendar: preparations for 4 June upgrade of ldap; files updated and checklist generated.

LDAP: update code update because of wrong authoritative source updates getting reported to downstream systems... testing incomplete... not placed in production.

May 24, 2005

24. Mai 2005 -- Dienstag

Recruitment: Iron out the details somewhat

Maintenance: work on Sun Maintenance contract

Team: meeting/organizational work

LDAP/ERP: working on the todolist in FP ISSUE=110 PROJ=36. Left with setting a permanent address, configuring serial console, and moving it to Mann.

Projects: scripts move from AIX to Linux -- meeting with Wes to go over what is being used and how to move it. Biggest problem is going to be the calendar api (CAPI).

Projects: firewall adjustments for ais

May 18, 2005

18. Mai 2005 -- Mittwoch

LDAP: The sendmail alias entries reappeared in the ldap directory yesterday. Created by the rootdn. They created duplicate mailLocalAddress attribute values which caused the update process to abort (just as it did the last time on 29. Oktober 2004). Fixed it the same way as then -- deleted all the sendmail aliases and reran the process by hand.

LDAP: manually add a retiree to the list... need a new copy of the spread sheet from HR.

Video Streamer: quick meeting/discussion about disks and counting of available spares

LDAP: FootPrints Issue #14435 Project #4 -- is there something illegal in the entry? No, there isn't.

LDAP: Work with Jim setting up a test LDAP server for mail routing

General: provide suggestions to Kent about a recalcitrant Sun box

LDAP/ERP: a little more work to move toward having catldap working.

May 17, 2005

17. May 2005 -- Dienstag

UPS/AC: got quote from J&M Schaefer for a second 80KVA Liebert UPS

LDAP/Directory: Deal with two people having trouble updating their entries. One is attempting to change their description attribute but says they didn't change anything. The other (footprints ISSUE=14435 PROJ=4) is getting a quizical error message.

May 16, 2005

16. May 2005 -- Montag

Video Streamer: Replace failed hard drive

Firewall: open discussion about what ports/addresses to allow

May 15, 2005

15. May 2005 -- Sonntag

Space: rack2c filled up. Moved two 500+MB ugrads to get space under control again. Did not have time to investigate cause at this time. A UVM Staff member on rack2c added over a gigabyte (2%) to the filesystem.

DHCP: dhcp1 needed a recycle

On Call

May 14, 2005

14. May 2005 -- Samstag

Footprints: Updated RHEL 3 on the server to all the latest maintenance and verified that the footprints application still works.

Space: moved a few users around to get some breathing room on all the /rack filesystems.

On Call

May 13, 2005

13. Mai 2005 -- Freitag

Space: rack2e full -- moved a ugrad who had grown 300M this week; rack1a full -- moved a ugrad to stop the paging and moved a "My Music" folder that had appeared over the course of the week with 3G to /backup.

UPS/AC: phone calls, planning, meeting, paperwork

Vacation!

On Call

May 11, 2005

11. Mai 2005 -- Mittwoch

ERP: meetings in the morning about authentication and load balancing

EMAIL: Issue about read-only mailbox, I think we finally tracked the problem down to Eudora timing out and making the folders read-only.

SecurID: Had Sharon check on the return/reissue of the seed file. She found out that the vendor can issue a new seed file in the older format, which is completely opposite what I was told by RSA SecurID support. So, I don't have to rush the upgrade of the server. YAY!

ERP LDAP: working with Don to set up a time to build and install the test server.

Power/AC: Change of plans. Instead of conditioning the power for VACC, we want to put in a new UPS. And instead of handling 225KVA like I was told earlier, now it's only big enough that it will still fit on the existing 225KW generator... that means we can really only double the size of the UPS (about 160KVA).

On Call

May 10, 2005

10. Mai 2005 -- Dienstag

imap: examine logs to see if can figure out why an account was having troubles yesterday.

Recruitment: document the reference checks and ping the team

SecurID: import tokens didn't work -- doesn't like the .XML file... Hmmm, need to get a different batch with the .ASC file or upgrade the server

LDAP: update your entry blew up attempting to update the description attribute

(On Call)

May 9, 2005

9. Mai 2005 -- Montag

General: Meeting to discuss overhead cable tray's in Waterman machine room.

Planning: getting rid of mink; upgrading parrot

Recruitment: Document reference checks

(On Call)

May 6, 2005

6. Mai 2005 -- Freitag

Space: rack2c moved some avi files to "backup" to free up 5% of the filesystem! rack{2a,2f,1b} moved users around to make more room and prevent pages.

General: parrot hardware and software emails with JSR/team.

LDAP: updated entry with bad HR fed catcard barcode, updated it to use the one catcard assigned to the 950ID from SIS.

Calendar: userid change; ran unidssync to update everything.

Accounts: Restore the email for one more of the people I purged before... perhaps I should not have actually deleted the accounts, but rather just removed the zoo data. This is #3 out of the 25 that were actually deleted.

Power: Meeting with Bob Wahlbach and Jim about providing up to 60KVA for the VACC in 205.

May 5, 2005

5. Mai 2005 -- Donnerstag

LDAP: can su be used to run commands as ldap? Yes! "su -s -c "! So, the ldap_dump.sh script has been updated to run the slapcat as "ldap" and that way should the checkpoint cause a new log file to be created, it will be owned by ldap.

UPS: update College of Medicine machines getting traps.

LDAP: build openldap 2.2.26 rpm

Meetings: Attend Apple tech update and meet with reps from NIS

Space: handle rack1[abc] space problems

General: hung imapd for a couple of accounts on penguins.

Accounts: Recover the email for a second one of the accounts removed on 26. April.

May 4, 2005

4. Mai 2005 -- Mittwoch

LDAP: one more shot at Catcard problem report... OpenLDAP has an ITS (#3703) dealing with slapcat doing a checkpoint when it closes the bdb even though it only opened it in RO mode.

Space/Power: gather more information for planning... move or upgrade...

RHN: Several security fixes on trout/mink/caltest ...

Filesystem: added a directory structure for Kent.

Fileserver: moved a couple of ugrads off rack2f because it got overly full. Moved one ugrad off rack1e to give it a bit more breathing space.

Helpline: couple of imapd problems

Hardware: Assist Geoff in getting two Wrightline racks into the machineroom.

ERP: Update to allow cat21[01] mount /fixdist...

May 3, 2005

3. Mai 2005 -- Dienstag

LDAP: Update failed because a bdb log file got created/owned by root at 00:17:09 this morning -- apparently caused by the nightly slapcat backup -- and the ldapmodify could not log the changes. Jim did the work and I provided the direction, fixed in about an hour. Posted to openldap-software to see if this is an expected thing to have happen.

Directory: Don't show the uvmhrterminationdate anymore.... Provost doesn't want to see it.

General: bullfrog broken disk replacment -- Jim and I worked on this all morning. Space problems on moose, I took care of rack1e and Jim got the other two (rack1b and rack1c) ... seems several students want to save their music on zoo over the summer :-/

LDAP: Generate and send a report to CatCard office of people with assigned SSN's that are in the CatCard DB with their real SSN. There were only fifteen.

May 2, 2005

2. Mai 2005 -- Montag

Big Brother: set up bbwarn*.cfg so the off-* systems are matched by something and the pages do NOT go to tsgpage. Big Brother really wants all the bb-hosts files to be identical and we're playing games with that to monitor things from outside the campus network as well as on-campus and have a single BBPAGER system. Ugh!

Recover the mail for one of the 25 accounts that was deleted since the person has crawled out of the woodwork to get their data. Not clear whether they are after their email or their filesystem space. May have to recover their filesystem space later.

Sent out the third email to the 6727 accounts left to be locked/deleted in June/July.

Space: clean up another couple of filesystems with people dumping their music archive before they leave for the summer.

ERP: status meeting...

May 1, 2005

1. Mai 2005 -- Sonntag

Student Network: pages from 4:40 until 5:55 about the inability to telnet to the off-stunet service.

Space: rack1c hit 97%
