August 28, 2006

28. August 2006 -- Montag

Admin

  • LDAP: logrotate on barnowl was dying because /var/log/cups directory did not exist. Created the directory (damned systemimager process anyway) and use -force to get it to rotate the logs for the first time in its short life
  • Penguin3: hardware issue -- it needed to have the power removed and restored before it would power up. No idea why it was so messed up that the power button was refusing to work -- just sat there and blinked at me.
  • Accounts: dealing with multiple netid's problems. One is clearly the same person. Second and third is not so clear -- Banner disagrees with itself

  • Calendar:
    • 5663822.993 - Apple X11 1.0 doesn't have the issue that I'm having with Apple X11 1.1 -- notified that lbxproxy will work around the problem and asked how we could supply a test environment to Apple
    • 5663822.993 - Oracle closes issue without my permission
    • 5691449.992 - Opened to address why Oracle closed 5663822.993 without answering question of how to help Apple

August 11, 2006

11. August 2006 -- Freitag

Admin

  • Mail: fix folders on server for special customer
  • Temp: Adjust A/C's in machine room to redirect cool air where needed
  • LDAP: IdM development
  • Calendar:
5671476.992 - Oracle says that RHEL4u3 gets recognized as RHEL3 by their scanner (ie they have a bug) and to fix it remove the "update 3" info from the /etc/redhat-release file.
    • 5663822.993 - Oracle says that I should use VNC instead of X11. Right, that would require installing X11 server packages and VNC packages on the linux system that is going to be the OCS server. Bzzzt! Try again, folks!
  • OS: RHEL4U4 ISO images for i386 and x64 downloaded

August 9, 2006

9. August 2006 -- Mittwoch

Admin

  • Calendar: 5671476.992 -- Oracle agrees that no compat-libstdc++-devel rpm is needed. So, I've asked how to get runInstaller to know that so it stops complaining all the time of a "failure"
  • FootPrints: recover another inbox
  • WebCT: fsck filesystem for app owner
  • LDAP: IdM code development

August 8, 2006

8. August 2006 -- Dienstag

Admin

  • Calendar:
    • 5663822.993 update -- I've confused the Oracle support person by stating that I did not install the X11 server on the machine that will be the OCS server. I have now updated the issue to explain that the X11 server is not required to run on the same physical machine as the X11 client and that their runInstaller program has a problem when the X11 server is a Mac running X11 on OS X 10.4.7. We'll see if they come back with any way to get the runInstaller program to give an error log or output of any kind in the shell that invoked it.
    • 5671476.992 opened -- compat-libstdc++-devel rpm doesn't exist for RHEL4 but the runInstaller continues to complain about it missing at every turn
  • Accounts: Adjusting aliases per requests from Account Services
  • FootPrints:
    • Update footprints entries that have not been updated in a week to see what can be closed and what is still a problem
    • Inbox recovery from the weekend
